Falcons' Kirk Cousins Trade Market Reportedly 'Dry' After Aaron Rodgers Join Steelers

Andrew PetersJun 8, 2025

Kirk Cousins' hopes of being traded from the Atlanta Falcons reportedly are in jeopardy after Aaron Rodgers signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported on SportsCenter on Sunday that Cousins viewed Pittsburgh as a possible landing spot in a trade, but the Rodgers deal means his trade options are now slim.

"Kirk Cousins was hoping to get out of town, be a starter for a new team, and he looked at Pittsburgh as he could be a potential Plan B for them," Fowler said. "Well, that is off the table, and it is a dry quarterback market for Cousins to try to get in a trade."

The Falcons also aren't as eager to trade Cousins as he is to get out of Atlanta, especially with other teams filling up their quarterback rooms.

"Atlanta hasn't really shown a willingness to trade Cousins much as one source told me that, 'If they were willing to take maybe $7 million or $8 million on an offset from another team two months ago, this could've gotten done,'" Fowler said. "But now Cleveland has a bunch of quarterbacks in its room. Pittsburgh has Rodgers. The New Orleans Saints are the only team who could have any sort of opening but they're probably not going to trade in the division. So, maybe Atlanta holds onto him through training camp, sees if there's any sort of injury."

Cousins struggled in his first year with the Falcons in 2024, throwing for 3,508 yards, 18 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. Despite his struggles, he drew some trade interest this offseason, primarily from the Steelers as they awaited Rodgers' decision.

While the Falcons seemingly aren't desperate to move Cousins, trading him would save them $27.5 million, rather than the $2.5 million it would have saved them if they dealt him before June 1. If Atlanta can't find a trade partner for Cousins but still wants to part ways, it would cost the team $10 million.
