Darius Garland Reportedly Could Be Available for Trade, Cavs 'Open-Minded' to Deal

The Cleveland Cavaliers could look to shake up the core this offseason.

During an appearance on ESPN Cleveland Thursday, ESPN's Brian Windhorst reported that the team could look to move guard Darius Garland in the offseason.

"I think there's some belief that Darius Garland might be available under the right circumstances... I think the Cavs are listening and open minded," Windhorst said.

Garland averaged 20.6 points, 6.7 assists and 2.9 rebounds for the Cavaliers in 75 regular season games. His efforts helped push Cleveland to a 64-18 record and the top seed in the Eastern Conference.

The Cavaliers took down the Miami Heat in the opening round before falling to the Indiana Pacers in five games in the second round. Garland averaged 18 points, 5.2 assists and 2.2 rebounds in five playoff games.

He notably missed the final two games against the Heat and the first two against the Pacers due to a sprained toe. While Garland was out, the Cavaliers had two explosive performances against the Heat but also went down 0-2 to the Pacers.

The Cavaliers are led by Garland, Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen but moving Garland in a lateral move or upgrade could change the team identity. Cleveland has not reached the Conference Finals since the 2018-19 season and have bowed out in the first two rounds in three consecutive seasons.
