French Open 2025 Women's Semifinal Preview and Predictions for Roland-Garros Bracket

Nicholas NathansonJun 4, 2025

Thursday marks the start of the French Open women's semifinals, and the storylines are riveting.

Iga Swiatek is now just two wins away from becoming the first woman in the Open to four-peat at Roland-Garros.

But, first, she'll have to overcome top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka, who has yet to drop a set this week.

Meanwhile, No. 2 seed Coco Gauff will face off against Frenchwoman Lois Boisson and the French crowd.

Boisson, the World No. 361, entered the French Open with just one WTA main-draw victory in her career.

Now, she's the first woman to reach the semifinal in a Grand Slam debut since Jennifer Capriati in 1990.

So, how will it all unfold? Will Swiatek continue her dominance? Can Boisson achieve the improbable once again?

Keep reading to find everything you need ahead of Thursday's semifinal action.

Iga Swiatek

Iga Swiatek is just two wins away from becoming the first-ever woman in the Open Era to four-peat at Roland-Garros.

Despite entering the French Open in more vulnerable form than years past, the five-time major champion has flourished, dropping just one set the entire week.

However, she faces a tough battle in the semifinal round with Aryna Sabalenka looming.

While Swiatek has historically controlled the head-to-head battle (Swiatek leads 8-4) and has gone 5-1 in their clay-court matches, Sabalenka is in impeccable form.

The three-time Grand Slam champion has yet to drop a set this week despite facing back-to-back formidable opponents, Amanda Anisimova and Zheng Qinwen.

Sabalenka has such a blistering serve and forceful groundstrokes that make her a nightmare opponent for just about anyone.

Furthermore, the No. 1 seed is one of the best returners, especially on second serve, where she can flourish with her aggressive game plan.

However, Swiatek has a clear fitness edge, and the more physical this match becomes, the more likely she is to move on.

If the Pole can come up with an aggressive game plan and remain consistent, this is her match to lose.

Prediction: Iga Swiatek over Aryna Sabalenka in three sets

Lois Boisson vs. Coco Gauff

2025 French Open - Day Eleven
Coco Gauff

Lois Boisson's run has reached unprecedented heights.

The Frenchwoman entered the French Open with just one WTA main-draw victory to her name and zero experience in a main-draw Grand Slam.

Now, the World No. 361 is just one win away from becoming the first French woman to reach the French Open final since Mary Pierce in 2005.

Coco Gauff will look to prevent that, however.

Gauff enters as the overwhelming favorite, but considering her shaky form and serving struggles, Boisson is more than capable of holding her own.

Furthermore, as Mirra Andreeva recently discovered, she not only faces an opponent who has nothing to lose, but also faces a crowd that is rooting against her, potentially creating a significant mental challenge.

Boisson can continue her Cinderella run if she can establish offense early and play off the crowd's energy.

Prediction: Lois Boisson over Coco Gauff in three sets
