US Open Tennis 2026 Results, Day 3 Bracket Winners, Losers, Highlights and Day 4 Schedule

While Monday's US Open play was delayed by rain throughout the day, a number of notable stars were able to get their matches in.

In the men's draw, top-ranked Alexander Zverev overcame Lorenzo Sonego in a five-set thriller, while 2024 US Open finalist Taylor Fritz defeated 18-year-old Darwin Blanch in an all-American matchup.

In the women's draw, Elena Rybakina, Coco Gauff, and Madison Keys all advanced in straight sets.

Taylor Fritz began his US Open campaign with a convincing straight-set victory over 18-year-old fellow American Darwin Blanch.

The No. 9 seed excelled on his first serve, winning 49 out of 54 points.

Although Blanch is typically known for his strong serve, he managed to land only 44 percent of his first serves and struggled to match Fritz's consistency.

In the final match of the day, Alexander Zverev defeated Lorenzo Sonego in a five-set thriller.

Zverev had won all six of his previous encounters against Sonego, but on Tuesday he was pushed to the limit, coming within two points of losing the match.

After taking the first set, it looked as though Zverev would secure a straightforward victory.

However, Sonego dramatically raised his level with his athleticism, booming serve, and remarkable net play.

While Sonego appeared to save breakpoint opportunities one after another, Zverev ultimately did just enough to avoid what would have been arguably the biggest upset of the tournament.

The second round of the US Open will begin Wednesday on ESPN, with all matches also being available on ESPN Unlimited.

On Wednesday, Ben Shelton and Hubert Hurkacz will face off at Arthur Ashe Stadium in what is expected to be the match of the day.

Shelton enters coming off the heels of an impressive four-set win over Tallon Griekspoor, while Hurkacz defeated Damir Dzumhur in four sets.

This match might require a few tiebreakers, with both players boasting among the best serves on tour.

While Hurkacz has the tools to win a set or even two, Shelton's much-improved return game and significant edge in endurance should allow him to persevere.

On Tuesday, No. 2 seed Elena Rybakina began her bid for a first career US Open title with a straight-set win over 17-year-old American Thea Frodin.

Rybakina dominated on her first serve, winning 77 percent of points while saving two breakpoint opportunities.

Frodin was able to keep things competitive mostly due to her first serve, where she won 20 of 25 points and hit 11 aces.

However, baseline consistency and Rybakina's aggressive return game, particularly on the second serve, proved to be the difference maker.

In other action, Madison Keys defeated Alina Korneeva in straight sets to move on to the second round of the US Open.

The 31-year-old American struggled with form throughout the match but relied on her experience and timely shot-making to narrowly persevere in straight sets.

Coco Gauff stayed in impeccable form fresh off winning the Cincinnati Open, defeating Zeynep Sonmez in straight sets.

The two-time major champion dominated in her return game and committed just 12 unforced errors.

Jessica Pegula and Sofia Kenin are set to face off in a match that promises excitement.

Pegula has been in outstanding form recently, coming off a finals appearance at the Cincinnati Open.

She dominated her first-round match against Elena-Gabriela Ruse, winning 92 percent of points on her first serve.

Meanwhile, Sofia Kenin enters with momentum after defeating Venus Williams.
