Kevin Durant Trade Asking Price Reportedly 'Lowered' by Suns amid Rockets Rumors

The Phoenix Suns reportedly have been engaged with the Houston Rockets in trade discussions regarding star forward Kevin Durant, and their demands have dwindled over time.

The Athletic's Kelly Iko reported that sources said, "Since the conclusion of the season, Houston has fielded several calls from Phoenix, who have since gradually lowered their asking price for Durant."

Durant has been linked to the Rockets for some time now, largely due to Houston's acquisition of Phoenix's draft capital prior to this season in a trade with the Brooklyn Nets. Iko noted that the Suns are being "aggressive in pursuit of a) trading Kevin Durant and b) regaining full control of their draft capital starting with the No. 10 pick in next month's draft."

Despite Phoenix lowering its asking price, there's no guarantee Houston will be able to pull off a deal for Durant. Iko explained that "there is a price where the Rockets would be interested, but with a fear of breaking up their roster for a 36-year-old coming off injury, doubt remains over a deal materializing."

The Rockets finished second in the Western Conference with a 52-30 record and made the playoffs for the first time since 2020. They fell to the Golden State Warriors in the first round in seven games, but they have a core full of talented young players that provides optimism for the future.

Adding Durant to the mix would give Houston the proven superstar it needs to take the next step as a true title contender, but it could be tough for Phoenix to convince the Rockets to sacrifice their young players for an aging veteran. With the Suns lowering their trade demands, it could open the door for another team to try to negotiate a deal for the former NBA MVP.
