Haliburton paid homage to Miller with the "choke" celebration after his buzzer-beating jumper in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals that helped the Pacers earn an improbable comeback victory in overtime, which set the tone for the rest of the series against the Knicks.
Playing in front of frenzied crowd at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Saturday's Game 6, Indiana upped the intensity in the second half and pulled away for a 125-108 win. Pascal Siakam led the way with 31 points and was named Eastern Conference Finals MVP, while Haliburton added 21 points and 13 assists. Six players scored in double figures for the Pacers, who shot 54.1 percent from the field and 51.5 percent from three-point range in an impressive close-out performance.
"I can't put into words how special this group is. And how much this means to us," Haliburton said after the game. He later added, "We just talked about, man, this is what we got together to do. To do something special, and we're part of it right now."
In their first NBA Finals appearance since 2000, the Pacers will have the tough task of trying to take down the Oklahoma City Thunder, who had the best record in the NBA this season at 68-14. Still, with Haliburton leading the way, Indiana will have a strong chance of achieving its first NBA title in franchise history.
