Devin Booker Reportedly Has 'Level of Involvement' in Suns' HC Search amid NBA Rumors
Phoenix Suns star Devin Booker has a "level of involvement" in the Suns' search for a new head coach, per Marc Stein of The Stein Line.
Booker is involved in the early stages of interviews for the coaching search, as owner Mat Ishbia has been vocal about his determination to keep Booker as the team's "cornerstone," per Stein.
The team fired Mike Budenholzer after just one season in Phoenix. He had replaced former head coach Frank Vogel, who was also fired after one season. Budenholzer led the Suns to their first losing season since 2019-20 and failed to guide the team to the postseason.
Phoenix is prepared to hire a first-time head coach after missing on veteran candidates the past two years. In addition, this adds to the "belief leaguewide" that the Suns will explore the trade market for Kevin Durant this offseason, per Stein.
The Suns were expected to perform much better this season, entering the year with the 12th-best odds to win the 2025 NBA Finals behind a stacked trio of Booker, Durant and Bradley Beal.
