VJ Edgecombe Reportedly Had 'Excellent Interview' with Hornets amid NBA Draft Rumors

Paul KasabianMay 30, 2025

VJ Edgecombe, the former Baylor wing who appears likely to land in the top five of the NBA draft, had "an excellent interview" with the Charlotte Hornets, according to Kevin O'Connor of Yahoo Sports.

"Edgecombe had an excellent interview with the Hornets, league sources say. And while there are no locks he’ll be the pick, plenty of executives believe he’s the favorite if he makes it to the fourth pick," O'Connor wrote.

Edgecombe landed at fourth overall to the Hornets in the latest Bleacher Report mock draft from Jonathan Wasserman.

"With offense running through LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller, Edgecombe gives Charlotte a different type of scorer and defender with his rim pressure and quickness," Wasserman wrote.

Edgecombe also went fourth overall in O'Connor's mock. The Yahoo Sports scribe wrote in part: "And it’s understandably so because Edgecombe perfectly fits alongside LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller as an explosive, high-motor wing who flies out of nowhere for poster dunks and chase-down blocks. He pairs his elite athleticism with a knockdown spot-up jumper and fearless slashing."

Edgecombe played one year at Baylor, averaging 15.0 points on 43.6 percent shooting (34.0 percent from three), 5.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.1 steals. He has tremendous potential on both sides of the ball, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see him develop into a perennial All-Star even if his scoring tools aren't yet at the level of a Dylan Harper or Ace Bailey.

The Hornets need as much talent as they can amass as the team looks to make the playoffs for the first time since 2016. Edgecombe would be a great addition to the squad, but it's also conceivable that he doesn't make it to No. 4. Cooper Flagg is a mortal lock to go first to the Dallas Mavericks, and Harper seems all but certain to go second to the San Antonio Spurs, assuming they keep the pick.

The big question right now is at No. 3, where Bailey has been connected to the 76ers. But Edgecombe is certainly making a case for No. 3, and at this point, it's hard to see him slipping past Charlotte at No. 4.
