Cavs Insider Gets 'Sense' Darius Garland, Jarrett Allen Aren't Untouchable in Trades

Salary cap restrictions could potentially lead the Cleveland Cavaliers to consider trading Jarrett Allen or Darius Garland this summer, according to Cleveland.com's Chris Fedor.

Fedor said Wednesday at the nine-minute mark of the Wine and Gold Talk podcast that he believes Donovan Mitchell and Evan Mobley, not Allen and Garland, are the Cavaliers' "two untouchables" as the team prepares to deal with potentially being over the second salary cap apron next season.

“I have been getting the sense that the Cavs would be more willing to entertain and at least consider possibilities for Jarrett Allen and Darius Garland than they have in the past," Fedor said.

Fedor added that he believed any potential deal would need to bring in a strong return, rather than serve as just a "dumping ground" for Allen's three-year, $90.7 million contract or the three years and more than $125 million remaining on Garland's deal.

"That all comes down to, it's got to be the right deal. It's got to be the right pieces coming back, that the Cavs believe would be a step forward, as opposed to a lateral move or just a step back," Fedor said.

The Athletic's John Hollinger previously reported that the Cavaliers, who have 10 players under contract for next season, are on track to be $15 million over the projected second tax apron line even if the team's remaining roster spots are filled out with league-minimum salaries.

Cavaliers president of basketball operations Koby Altman said earlier in May that the Cavaliers would be willing to go above the second apron "if we need to go there," but that there was "a level of mental toughness we need to get to."
