Bears Reportedly Want Caleb Williams to Improve Body Language, Pre-Snap Procedure

Joseph ZuckerMay 27, 2025

The Chicago Bears are looking for Caleb Williams to improve on some of the finer nuances that come with being a starting quarterback in the NFL, according to The MMQB's Albert Breer.

Breer reported "body language" and "pre-snap procedure" are areas of focus with the Bears for their franchise QB.

"On the former, while the coaches understood the beating he took, they showed film to emphasize how he'd been slow to pull himself up off the ground," Breer wrote. "It was a long year. People got fired in-season. And in adverse circumstances, the staff explained, having a quarterback who was rolling with the punches would go a long way. On the latter, there was a smattering of small things — like on the first play of one game, he turned to his left, thinking the motion was coming, when it was actually coming from the right — that needed to be cleaned up."

The NFL insider added that Williams has "welcomed every piece of criticism in an effort to get better" and worked with Case Keenum, who Chicago signed in April, outside of practices.

Being in Williams' position carries a heavy burden where your every move is scrutinized. Maybe you're not getting up fast enough from a sack.

In discussing Cleveland Browns draft pick Shedeur Sanders after the 2025 NFL draft, former NFL star Cam Newton said the quarterback is in effect the "CEO" for his organization. That means behaving in ways that might seem small and arbitrary but carry some symbolism.

Williams showed improvement as his rookie year unfolded. In Chicago's final seven games, he threw for 1,525 yards, 11 touchdowns and one interception.

With the hiring of Ben Johnson, multiple additions to the offensive line, and the arrivals of wide receiver Luther Burden III and tight end Colston Loveland through the draft, the stage is set for Williams to take a big step forward in Year 2.

When it comes to evaluating his progress, Breer's report shows how the Bears will look beyond just his on-field production.
