Aaron Rodgers Rules Out Saints Contract, Jokes He's 'Too Old' for Louisiana in Video

Adam WellsMay 25, 2025

Aaron Rodgers still isn't saying for sure if or where he will play football in 2025, but the four-time NFL MVP did use an event in Texas this weekend to rule out teams he wouldn't play for.

Asked by a New Orleans Saints fan if he would ever consider joining them, Rodgers definitively said "no" before joking that he's "too old" to live in Louisiana.

This makes two teams that Rodgers said at this event in no uncertain terms he would never play for. He also ruled out the Chicago Bears, though at least he did offer a clue about his potential future by noting "there’s a team that might play in Chicago this year on a road trip."

Astute listeners quickly figured out the Pittsburgh Steelers, who are continuing to wait for Rodgers to make a decision, play at Soldier Field on Nov. 23.

The Saints are certainly one of the teams that would have been justified in placing a call to Rodgers' agents to gauge his interest, especially in the aftermath of Derek Carr's surprise retirement announcement on May 10.

New Orleans did address the quarterback position in the 2025 draft by taking Tyler Shough in the second round, there's a great deal of uncertainty about his ability to be a high-level starter in the NFL.

Even though Rodgers is probably no longer capable of being a high-level starter either at this point in his career, there's an argument he would be the best option for a team like the Saints.

Another factor for Rodgers in dismissing the Saints is their proximity to winning a Super Bowl. He's reportedly only interested in joining a team he views as a contender.

It's hard to view a Saints team coming off a 5-12 record last season as being good enough to make the jump to contender status in the NFC.
