Aaron Rodgers Gives Hint on Possible Steelers Contract in Video Amid NFL Rumors

Adam WellsMay 24, 2025

If Aaron Rodgers is a poker player, he's probably not great at bluffing given his attempt at a cryptic answer to a question at an event in Texas on Friday.

Asked by a fan if he would ever play for the Chicago Bears, Rodgers said no before adding he knows of a team that is playing in Chicago during the 2025 NFL season.

The Pittsburgh Steelers, who have long been holding out for a definite answer from Rodgers about playing next season, will visit Soldier Field to play the Bears on Nov. 23.

Steelers president and owner Art Rooney IIย reiteratedย this week at the NFL league meetings that they were willing to "wait a little while longer" for Rodgers to decide his future.

Every move the Steelers have made at the quarterback spot this offseason suggests they are planning on getting Rodgers. They remade their entire room by signing Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson as free agents, then selected Will Howard in the sixth round of the 2025 draft.

Despite head coach Mike Tomlin'sย insistenceย that the Steelers would be "comfortable" with Rudolph as their starter, it's not a good recipe for being competitive in an AFC North with the Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals.

Rodgersย visitedย the Steelers' facilities for several hours early in the offseason. His trip included meetings with the team's coaching staff.

During an April 17 appearance onย The Pat McAfee Show, Rodgersย saidย he's spoken to Tomlin "several times" while adding there's no timeline for him to make a decision and he understands if a team wants to move on rather than continue to wait.

Rodgers alsoย toldย McAfee one reason he wasn't rushing to make any decisions about his NFL future was because people in his inner circle were dealing with some "difficult stuff."

Of course, with Rodgers, you never know what to expect. The Bears play seven other games at Soldier Field this season, so he could be talking about any one of them. They open with the Minnesota Vikingsโ€”who at leastย exploredย signing Rodgers at one point before deciding to roll with J.J. McCarthyโ€”on Monday Night Football in Week 1.

Based on how patient the Steelers have been thus far, Rodgers' comments can at least give them some optimism a deal might come together sooner than later.
