The Minnesota Timberwolves' Game 1 loss in the Western Conference Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder was a costly one for Anthony Edwards.

The NBA announced Wednesday it fined the Timberwolves star $50,000 because he used "profane language during a media interview" following his team's 114-88 loss to the Thunder in Tuesday's series opener.

"I definitely gotta shoot more," Edwards told reporters after the contest. "I only took 13 f-----g shots."

While he did go into the locker room in the first half because of an ankle injury, it was still an uncharacteristic game from the Georgia product. After all, he averaged 22.4 shots per game in the first-round win over the Los Angeles Lakers and 19.8 shots per game in the second-round win over the Golden State Warriors.

Oklahoma City did an impressive job of swarming him with defenders and cutting off his open looks as he finished with 18 points and nine rebounds on 5-of-13 shooting from the field and 3-of-8 shooting from deep.

The majority of Edwards' field-goal attempts came from beyond the arc, underscoring how the Thunder cut off his driving lanes with their stifling defense.

On the other side, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander took over in the second half on his way to 31 points, nine assists, five rebounds and three steals. If Minnesota is going to come back in this series and overcome the home-court advantage on the side of the Western Conference's top seed, it will need the individual star matchup to be closer.

This is not the first time Edwards was fined this season. The league fined him $35,000 in March because he didn't leave the court quickly enough following an ejection in a loss to the Lakers.

It also fined him $50,000 last month "for directing inappropriate language and making an obscene gesture toward a fan" during a first-round game against Los Angeles.
