Jerry Jones Says 18-Game Schedule, Goodell Contract Weren't Discussed at NFL Meetings
A pair of important items were left off the agenda at the NFL's league meetings in Minneapolis on Wednesday.
Per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones revealed that a possible contract extension for NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and an 18-game schedule were not discussed during Wednesday's meetings.
The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported that a contract extension for Goodell would be "pushed to a later date." She initially reported that an extension was expected to be approved on Wednesday. Goodell's current deal runs through 2027 after he signed a three-year extension in 2023.

While an 18-game schedule has been rumored to be under consideration for quite some time, Goodell said after the league meetings last month that such a proposal was "not a focus of our discussions by any stretch of the imagination." Still, many expect it to become a reality sooner rather than later.
The biggest news to come out of Wednesday's meetings was the rejected proposal to ban the tush push play made famous by the Philadelphia Eagles. After 16 teams voted in favor of the ban earlier this year, 22 teams voted to approve the proposal on Wednesday, still falling short of the 24 votes needed for approval.
Before the meetings, the Detroit Lions rescinded their proposal to reseed the playoffs based on records. While the hope was that the proposal would incentivize teams to continue competing through Week 18, it didn't seem like there was much support from other teams, leading the Lions to pull the proposal before a formal vote.
