Paul George Reveals He Was Diagnosed with Torn Adductor Injury During 1st 76ers Season

Andrew PetersMay 20, 2025

Paul George had one of the most difficult seasons of his career in 2024-25 as he battled several injuries and struggled to stay on the court.

But even when he thought he was healthy and was able to be on the court, something didn't feel right. The Philadelphia 76ers star revealed on the Wave Original Podcast P with Paul George that he was dealing with a torn adductor throughout the year.

“The most frustrating thing about the last season was obviously I came in, I was healthy, I didn't have no hiccups," George said (54:20 mark).

"I spent the whole offseason working on my body, getting healthy and then I get to Philly. Preseason, I get hurt. From that point on, I didn't give it full time to heal. I got an expectation I'm not going to leave them hanging. I want to go out there and play. I'm out there and it's like, damn, I know something ain't right. I ain't got my burst, I can't move. And I couldn't quite pin what it was. Obviously the hyperextension, my knee was still bothering me. I had the brace for a long time, then I started to develop a quad tendon injury. So then that started to go flat on me and I'm like, f--k. So I'm like, all right, let me start taking medicine to try to numb this s--t up, start doing that. Then I had an injury that I didn't even know and this was the original of why I was feeling like something's off. I can't move. I'm used to being able to explode. I'm used to cutting, come to find out I had a torn adductor."

George played just 41 games in his first year with the Sixers because of a variety of injuries, from a hyperextended knee early in the season to a handful of other knee ailments.

When he was able to play, it was clear George wasn't himself. He averaged just 16.2 points per game after posting 22.6 the season before. George also lacked his typical athleticism and explosiveness.

Injuries to George and other key players like Joel Embiid led to a disastrous 24-58 season for the Sixers. George, 35, will now spend the offseason getting healthy as he looks to help turn Philadelphia into the championship contender it was expected to be when he arrived last summer.
