NBA Insider Names Celtics' Derrick White As Potential Warriors Trade Target

The Ringer's Logan Murdock believes the Golden State Warriors could decide to target Boston Celtics guard Derrick White this offseason.

"I think that's something that the Warriors are looking at right now, because Boston's expected in league circles to have some sort of fire sale," Murdock said at the 1:25:30 mark of the Zach Lowe Show.

Murdock continued: "That's somebody that you should look at. Just somebody that can play defense, and also kind of just settle everyone down, especially when you have a young group like that."

White averaged a career-high 16.4 points last season while adding 0.9 steals and 1.1 blocks per game as one of the top two-way guards in the NBA.

He also shot 38.4 percent from behind the arc on a career-high 9.1 attempts per game, an appealing quality for a team that largely relied on Stephen Curry to provide three-point shooting last season.

White signed a four-year, $125 million extension last summer that is set to kick in next season. The deal locks him in through 2027-28, with a player option through his age-34 campaign in 2028-29.

After this spring's five-game elimination from the conference semifinals, the Warriors need to turn things around quickly if the franchise wants to take advantage of Curry and Draymond Green's remaining years.

Warriors' leadership has indicated that the franchise is done adding marquee names after the addition of Jimmy Butler III this season.

However, if Celtics decide to part ways with some of their core players after in light of Jayson Tatum's Achilles surgery and a ballooning payroll, the Warriors could consider acquiring White in an effort to improve on both defense and three-point shooting.
