Deron Williams Reportedly Agrees to Buyout with Nets

Tim DanielsJul 10, 2015

The Brooklyn Nets and Deron Williams have reportedly agreed to a buyout, per NBA.com's David Aldridge.

ESPN's Marc Stein reported Williams is expected to sign a two-year deal for approximately $10 million with the Mavericks once he's on the open market.

Stein reported the Nets shopped Williams around the league, but they couldn't find a buyer (Ohm Youngmisuk also of ESPN.com previously reported the Nets were exploring trade options in late June).

Dallas had previously missed out on signing center DeAndre Jordan following a bizarre saga, detailed here by Bleacher Report's Alec Nathan. Williams would give the Mavs a revamped backcourt with Wesley Matthews to join the forward combo of Dirk Nowitzki and Chandler Parsons.

A change of scenery could benefit the 31-year-old Illinois product. After averaging nearly 20 points and better than 10 assists per game during his peak with the Jazz, Williams was down to just 13 points and 6.6 assists per game with the Nets last season.

The Nets even started journeyman Jarrett Jack ahead of the three-time All-Star at times last season, so going to a competitive Dallas squad with reliable shooters around him could be just what Williams needs.
