Nikola Jokic, Nuggets Force G7 vs. SGA, Thunder, Thrill Fans By Keeping Season Alive
The Denver Nuggets aren't going away just yet.
The Nuggets won Game 6, 119-107, on Thursday, forcing a Game 7 against the Oklahoma City Thunder with a trip to the Western Conference Finals on the line.
After a tight first half, the Nuggets pulled away in the third and ultimately held a comfortable lead heading into the fourth. Still, just like it has multiple times in this series, Denver allowed that lead to slip. The Thunder cut it to just eight points in the final minute.
Though we've seen a handful of crazy comebacks throughout the playoffs this year, OKC and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who finished with 32, didn't have quite enough to steal the win in the final minutes as Denver saved its season.
After the win, fans praised the Nuggets for forcing what will be an exciting Game 7.
Denver relied on its typical stars while also looking to some players who have contributed little so far this postseason. MVP candidate Nikola Jokić was his typical self, posting 29 points, 14 rebounds and eight assists. Jamal Murray had another productive game with 25 points, eight assists and seven rebounds (Despite having an illness) and Christian Braun added 23 points and 11 rebounds.
Perhaps the biggest surprise was the play of second-year guard Julian Strawther. Strawther, who previously hadn't recorded a double-digit game in the playoffs, posted 15 points in 20 minutes, by far his biggest outing of the postseason.
Another big night from Strawther would be a welcome surprise for the Nuggets in Game 7.
