DeMar DeRozan's Trade Market Reportedly Expected to Be Explored by Kings

Doric SamMay 13, 2025

The Sacramento Kings' new regime reportedly has plans to explore the trade interest in one of their top veterans this offseason.

According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, "There has been no shortage of rumbles, since the hiring of Scott Perry as general manager, that Sacramento is expected to gauge the trade market for veteran swingman DeMar DeRozan."

Perry had served as general manager of the New York Knicks from 2017 to 2023 and was hired to the same position by the Kings in April. He was previously part of the Sacramento organization as executive vice president of basketball operations in 2017.

Perry is taking over a Kings franchise that has made just one playoff appearance since 2006. Sacramento's season came to an end with a loss in the play-in tournament for the second straight year after finishing the 2024-25 season with a 40-42 record, so it's not a surprise that changes are coming this offseason.

DeRozan joined the Kings last year on a sign-and-trade from the Chicago Bulls and has two years remaining on his contract. In his first season in Sacramento, he started all 77 of his appearances and averaged 22.2 points, 3.9 rebounds and 4.4 assists.

While DeRozan is a reliable veteran who can be a contributor on a contending team, he appears to be Sacramento's most viable trade candidate. The team is unlikely to consider moving star forward Domantas Sabonis after committing to him as the face of the franchise. Swingman Zach LaVine has one guaranteed year on his deal and a player option for 2026-27, but he can't be moved again after being acquired at this season's trade deadline.

It can be expected that Perry and company will explore every potential avenue to improve the Kings this offseason as they try to return to playoff contention next year.
