Knicks' Thibodeau After Win vs. Celtics, 'You Have to Earn Your Wins in This League'

Zach BacharMay 12, 2025

New York Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau discussed the team's 121-113 Game 4 victory over the Boston Celtics in their second-round playoff clash.

"You have to earn your wins in this league, they're not given to you," Thibodeau told reporters. "So, the building is not going to win the game. Whatever the series, each game you've got to go in and put the work in to winning that particular game. That's the only thing that matters."

The Celtics took an 11-point lead after the first quarter of Monday's contest and maintained a 62-51 advantage at the half. The Knicks surged back in the third quarter, outscoring Boston 37-23.

Both teams were tied 102-102 with six minutes left in the fourth quarter, but New York pulled away with several key baskets from Jalen Brunson and Mikal Bridges.

Brunson finished with 39 points and 12 assists, marking the 20th playoff game of his career in which he scored at least 30 points. He shot 14-of-25 from the field and 4-of-8 from three-point territory.

It was an impressive performance from New York despite entering the game with a 2-1 series edge, as Boston took a 20-point lead in each of the first three matchups of the series.

For the Celtics, Jayson Tatum led the way with 42 points on 16-of-28 shooting while connecting on seven triples. Tatum left the game with roughly three minutes remaining in the fourth with an apparent leg injury.

The Knicks now hold a 3-1 series lead and will attempt to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2000.
