Spurs Land 2nd Pick in 2025 NBA Draft, Expected to Select Dylan Harper

Joe TanseyMay 12, 2025

The San Antonio Spurs have the opportunity to add an incredible complement to Victor Wembanyama with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NBA draft.

San Antonio jumped up into the top four during Monday's NBA draft lottery.

Whomever the Spurs pick will be the fourth consecutive top-10 pick added to the roster after Jeremy Sochan, Wembanyama and Stephon Castle.

Dylan Harper is a nice consolation prize at the No. 2 overall pick.

Sure, the Spurs would’ve loved to select Cooper Flagg with the No. 1 overall pick, but Harper brings plenty of scoring with him as well.

The son of five-time NBA champion Ron Harper averaged 19.4 points per game in his lone collegiate season at Rutgers.

Harper didn’t have the team success that other lottery picks had last season in college, but he stood out with his scoring, including a 27-point outing in the Big Ten tournament against USC.

Bleacher Report’s Jonathan Wasserman noted what kind of role Harper will play on his first NBA team:

"Harper also has enough size to play the 2 or wing, but realistically, you draft him to initiate offense with how effective his ball-handling, strength and downhill scoring ability are."

Harper will be a viable scoring threat inside the Spurs offense. With him in the fold, the Spurs could have a strong young core for quite some time with himself and the last two Rookies of the Year in Wembanyama and Castle.
