Cavs' Donovan Mitchell Reportedly to Be Game-Time Decision for G5 Amid Ankle Injury

Cleveland Cavaliers star guard Donovan Mitchell's status for Tuesday's Game 5 against the Indiana Pacers reportedly is still up in the air.

During an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, ESPN's Shams Charania reported that Mitchell is a game-time decision for Game 5 after an MRI revealed that he re-aggravated an ankle injury.

Mitchell was removed from Sunday's Game 4 after experiencing discomfort in his ankle during warmups after halftime. He had missed the last four games of the regular season with a left ankle injury, but it wasn't thought to be serious at the time.

The Cavaliers put forth arguably their worst performance of the season in Sunday's matchup on their way to a 129-109 loss in a game where they trailed by as many as 44 points. They now trail Indiana 3-1 in the series and could be eliminated from the playoffs in the second round for the second straight year.

The potential loss of Mitchell is the latest untimely injury for a Cleveland team that earned the No. 1 seed in the East after going 64-18 in the regular season. Defensive Player of the Year Evan Mobley, point guard Darius Garland and swingman De'Andre Hunter all missed time during the conference semifinals due to injuries.

Mitchell has been the Cavs' best player throughout the postseason with an average of 28.9 points per game, which ranks fifth among all players in the playoffs. He dropped 43 points, nine rebounds and five assists in Cleveland's Game 3 win over Indiana on Friday.

If Mitchell is forced to sit out on Tuesday, the Cavs' chances of keeping their season alive will take a major hit.
