Cavs' Donovan Mitchell to Get MRI on Ankle Injury After Exiting vs. Pacers in Game 4

Taylyn Hadley May 12, 2025

Cleveland Cavaliers star Donovan Mitchell will undergo an MRI on Monday after injuring his left ankle during Sunday's 129-109 loss to the Indiana Pacers in Game 4, head coach Kenny Atkinson said after the game.

Mitchell’s availability moving forward remains uncertain as the team awaits the results of the scans.

Mitchell appeared to tweak his ankle while warming up for the third quarter, taking an awkward step near the top of the arc before doubling over in discomfort with his hands on his knees.

He did not return to the bench for the start of the second half and was replaced by Ty Jerome as the second half starter.

The 28-year-old finished the first half with 12 points on 3-of-11 shooting, along with one steal and one block.

A return from Mitchell seemed unlikely after the Cavaliers turned in a historically poor first half, trailing 80-39 at the break. Cleveland managed just 16 points in the second quarter and was outscored by 26 in the frame.

The series now shifts back to Cleveland, with Game scheduled for Tuesday night at 7 p.m. ET. With or without Mitchell, the Cavaliers will need a win to stave off elimination, as the Pacers currently hold a 3-1 series lead.
