Cowboys' George Pickens Discusses His Maturity Amid Criticism After Steelers Trade
After being traded from the Pittsburgh Steelers to the Dallas Cowboys, wide receiver George Pickens addressed criticisms about his maturity.
"I'm gonna take it one day at a time. Everybody in the world is working on bettering themselves," Pickens told reporters during a conference call on Thursday. "I feel like growth is me moving in the right direction and coming to the Cowboys."
Pickens has been known for having a hot temper on the field. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin spoke about his maturity after he was flagged twice for unsportsmanlike conduct in a Week 13 win against the Cincinnati Bengals, which came a week after he was involved in an on-field scuffle with Cleveland Browns cornerback Greg Newsome II.

"He's just got to grow up, man," Tomlin said at the time. "This is an emotional game, man. These divisional games are big. He's got a target on his back because he's George; he understands that. But he's got to grow up. He's got to grow up in a hurry."
Pickens said Thursday that he feels he's on the right path as he continues his development.
"I can't change anyone's opinion. Me, personally, I just continue to grow," Pickens told reporters. "Everyone in the world has to grow as you get older and older. I'm just trying to build a winning culture, which they already have at the Cowboys. I'm just glad to be joining."
The 2025 season is the final year of Pickens' rookie deal, and he reportedly isn't pushing for a contract extension because he wants to prove his worth. It sounds like he's motivated to showcase his growth both as a player and a person.
