Warriors' Steph Curry Will Miss At Least 1 Week with Strained Hamstring Injury
Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry will be re-evaluated in one week after suffering a Grade 1 hamstring strain in Game 1 against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday.
The Warriors will seemingly be without Curry for the next three games. A potential Game 5 against Minnesota is scheduled for May 14.
According to ESPN's Shams Charania, Curry's timetable will be determined by how his body responds to rehab.
Per Warriors PR, Curry suffered a left hamstring strain in the second quarter of his team's 99-88 road win on Tuesday in Game 1 of a Western Conference second-round playoff matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
He gestured at his left hamstring while playing defense and right before grabbing a defensive rebound off a missed Donte DiVincenzo three-pointer early in the second quarter. Curry gutted through the ailment and soon hit a floater in the lane for a 27-20 edge.
After Nickeil Alexander-Walker missed a shot on the other end, Curry found Draymond Green for a three-pointer and a 30-20 edge, leading to a Minnesota timeout. Brandin Podziemski subbed in for Curry with 8:19 left in the first half. Curry finished with 13 points in 13 minutes.
It's a tough blow for the Warriors any time Curry can't play. The 37-year-old is an 11-time All-Star, 10-time All-NBA player, four-time NBA champion and two-time NBA MVP. The future Basketball Hall of Famer is still cooking in his 16th NBA season, averaging a team-high 24.5 points to go along with 6.0 assists per game.
Without Curry, the onus is on Jimmy Butler and Buddy Hield to carry more of the scoring burden, while Draymond Green and Brandin Podziemski could assume more responsibilities as well. Gary Payton II is the primary candidate to see more time in Curry's absence, as he notably closed the Warriors' Game 1 win.
