Josh Hart Jokes Jalen Brunson 'Should've Won It in Regulation' After Knicks' OT Win
While the New York Knicks took a key victory over the Boston Celtics in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semi-finals, guard Josh Hart believes the task could have been a little easier.
Following the Knicks 108-105 overtime win, Hart jokingly called out star guard Jalen Brunson for missing a shot late in regulation, saying that "he should've won it in regulation."
Brunson had a potential game-winning shot rim out in the final seconds. If it had gone in, New York likely would have claimed a 102-100 win. Instead, it was pushed to overtime where the Knicks would eventually prevail.
After laughing it off, Hart then said that Brunson's play in the game was why he took home the NBA's Clutch Player of the Year award for 2024-25.
Brunson may not have hit the game-winning shot but he is undeniably a key reason why his team was victorious. He scored 29 points and also added five assists, four rebounds and two steals in 44 minutes.
Hart himself had a solid day as he contributed 14 points and added 11 rebounds, three assists and two steals in 45 minutes.
New York took a 1-0 lead over the second-seeded Celtics and hope to end Boston's chances at a back-to-back NBA Championships. While that could be difficult, taking the victory on Monday makes the road a little easier and should put the Celtics on their toes.
New York will look to extend the lead Wednesday when the team takes on Boston again at 7 p.m. ET.
