Jayson Tatum, Celtics Trolled by NBA Fans After Historic Shooting Struggles vs. Knicks
The Boston Celtics have become a team that lives by the three and dies by the three, and they died by the three on Monday in a 108-105 overtime loss to the New York Knicks in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals.
The Celtics, who made the most shots from deep during the regular season, were trigger-happy from deep on Monday, but it didn't pay off. Boston shot 60 three-pointers and made just 15 of them.
Jayson Tatum shot 4-of-16 from deep, Derrick White shot 5-of-16, Jaylen Brown shot 1-of-10 and Jrue Holiday made two of his seven attempts. Payton Pritchard and Al Horford both had five attempts off the bench.
Despite the lack of success from deep, head coach Joe Mazzulla said he was satisfied with the shot selection "for the most part."
The poor shooting night led to the Celtics blowing a double-digit lead in the second half as the Knicks eventually won in overtime.
After the abysmal three-point shooting effort from Boston, fans trolled the Celtics' game plan on social media.
The Celtics had the second-best record in the East this year, and they relied heavily on their three-point shooting in many of their 61 wins. But as Monday's game proved, things can go south quickly if the shots aren't falling.
All things considered, the fact that Boston shot 25 percent from deep but were still just shy of getting a win means the Celtics could have a fairly manageable series ahead of them if they can find the bottom of the net moving forward.
