Falcons, Jeff Ulbrich Fined for Shedeur Sanders Phone Number Leak After Prank Call

Doric SamApr 30, 2025

After the discovery that Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich's son was the culprit behind the prank call to Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders during the 2025 NFL draft, the team is paying the price.

Per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the NFL fined the Falcons $250,000 and Ulbrich $100,000 for the leak of Sanders' phone number. The league specified that the fines were for "failing to prevent the disclosure of confidential information distributed to the club in advance of the NFL Draft."

Before Sanders slid all the way to the fifth round of this year's draft and was selected by the Browns, he received a call from someone claiming to be New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis. Video of the prank was posted on social media and went viral:

It didn't take long before it was revealed that Ulbrich's son, Jax, a 21-year-old student at Ole Miss, was responsible for the disparaging moment. The youngster promptly posted an apology on social media, claiming that he also apologized to Sanders directly:

The Falcons released a statement admitting that Sanders' number was unintentionally found on an iPad, and the elder Ulbrich was unaware of the situation.

"The Atlanta Falcons do not condone this behavior and send our sincere apologies to Shedeur Sanders and his family, who we have been in contact with to apologize to, as well as facilitate an apology directly from Jax to the Sanders family," the statement read.

Per Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, Sanders was asked about the prank call after being selected by the Browns and said, "Of course I feel like it was a childish act, but everybody does childish things here and there."

In addition to Sanders, Indianapolis Colts first-round selection Tyler Warren and Philadelphia Eagles draft pick Kyle McCord both said they received prank calls, though it was determined that the calls were unrelated.

Hopefully, these unfortunate moments will be just a bump in the road for these prospects as they embark on their professional careers in the NFL.
