Bam Adebayo Predicts 'A Lot of Changes This Summer' for Heat After Being Swept by Cavs
The Miami Heat were embarrassed during a first-round sweep against the Cleveland Cavaliers, and Bam Adebayo believes team president Pat Riley is going to be busy this offseason as a result.
"There's going to be a lot of changes this summer," the big man told reporters after Monday's 138-83 loss in Game 4. "Just from my point of view, understanding how the guy with the silver hair works. Just be prepared for that."
It wasn't that long ago that Miami went to three Eastern Conference Finals in four years from 2020-23 during a stretch that included an appearance in the 2023 NBA Finals. However, it has now lost in the first round in each of the last two seasons.
Part of the issue was that Jimmy Butler was sidelined with injury during Miami's first-round loss to the Boston Celtics last season and not on the roster this season after the Heat traded him to the Golden State Warriors.
The Butler saga overshadowed much of Miami's 2024-25 campaign, and it simply didn't have the talent to compete with the Cavaliers in the first round. Cleveland won Game 1 by 21 points, Game 3 by 37 points and Game 4 by 55 points.
Riley and the front office will surely look to make some changes to the roster ahead of the 2025-26 campaign. After all, recent iterations of the roster have not looked to rebuild with an eye on the future, and Riley could attempt to add another star alongside Adebayo and Tyler Herro.
Perhaps that will lead to discussions about Kevin Durant or Giannis Antetokounmpo with the Phoenix Suns failing to make the playoffs and the Milwaukee Bucks one loss away from dropping out in the first round as well.
Or perhaps Riley will bolster the roster with the addition of multiple role players who help stretch the floor when opposing defenders are focused on Herro and Adebayo.
One thing is for sure, though. Adebayo thinks the roster is going to look quite different next season.
