Fredette is best remembered for his storied career at BYU, which culminated with National Player of the Year honors in his senior season in 2011. He averaged 28.9 points per game that year and owned numerous program and Mountain West Conference records at the time of his graduation.
"It wasn’t easy from the beginning but my college career turned out better than I could have ever imagined," Fredette wrote in the caption for his Instagram video. "From being the nations leading scorer, to 4 NCAA tourney appearances, a sweet sixteen run, and winning National Player of the Year. It was such an incredible life changing experience."
Fredette was the No. 10 pick in the 2011 draft. The Sacramento Kings acquired him in a three-team deal on draft night. He bounced around the NBA with stints with the Chicago Bulls, New Orleans Pelicans, New York Knicks and Phoenix Suns. He played his last game in the NBA in 2019.
Fredette continued his playing career overseas, and he made his 3x3 debut in 2022, helping his team win gold at the 2022 FIBA 3x3 AmeriCup and silver at the FIBA 3x3 World Cup 2023. After being selected to the Olympic 3x3 team for the 2024 Paris Games, Fredette unfortunately suffered an adductor tear in the second pool play game and was forced to sit out four games as Team USA went 2-5 and failed to medal.
Despite the unceremonious end to his career, Fredette earned the respect of every player who ever shared the floor with him, especially during his prime. He should be satisfied with the indelible mark that he made on college basketball and the game as a whole.
