NBA Playoff Bracket Picture 2025 After Heat, Grizzlies Clinch Final Spots

Joe TanseyApr 19, 2025

The Miami Heat and Memphis Grizzlies finalized the NBA playoff field with wins on Friday night.

Miami outlasted the Atlanta Hawks in overtime to become the first No. 10 seed to advance out of the play-in round.

The Heat are now the No. 8 seed in the full playoff bracket and will face the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round.

Memphis ran away from the Dallas Mavericks to set up a Western Conference clash with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Both of Friday's victors open their respective postseason on Sunday versus the top seeds in their conferences.

Miami Wins in Overtime, Set to Play Cleveland

Miami Heat v Atlanta Hawks - Play-In Tournament

The Heat outscored the Hawks 17-8 in overtime to book their ticket to the NBA postseason.

Tyler Herro led the Heat with 30 points, but Davion Mitchell was the star in overtime with nine of his 16 points.

Mitchell has to be one of Miami's X-factors on both ends of the ball against Cleveland's guards if the Heat want any chance of springing the upset, or at least being competitive.

Miami went 1-2 against Cleveland in the regular season. The most-recent matchup on March 5 was only by the Cavs by five points.

Cleveland's other win over Miami came by 20 points on January 29.

Miami will enter Cleveland exhausted after beating the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday and then downing Atlanta in overtime on Friday.

Cleveland will likely roll with fresh legs in Game 1, but Miami has a blueprint to stay close with the Cavs from the March showdown.

Memphis Downs Dallas, Plays OKC in First Round

2025 SoFi Play-In Tournament - Dallas Mavericks v Memphis Grizzlies

Memphis won't get to celebrate its win over Dallas for long.

The Grizzlies, who were in control against the Mavs from start to finish, have a first-round date with Oklahoma City.

The Thunder went 4-0 versus the Grizzlies in the regular season. Three of OKC's four victories were by double digits.

OKC's last win over Memphis on March 27 was a 21-point triumph in which Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 37 points.

Gilgeous-Alexander had 30+ points in each of his four matchups with the Grizzlies. OKC as a franchise is on a nine-game winning streak versus Memphis.

Ja Morant, Jaren Jackson Jr. and Desmond Bane all need to be at their best to even have a chance of downing OKC, but that might not even be enough if SGA, Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren are the better trio, like they were in the regular season against Memphis.
