Top Trade Packages for Dolphins' Jalen Ramsey Ahead of 2025 NFL Draft
Jalen Ramsey could be on the move in a trade for the third time in his career. At every landing spot, he's performed at a Pro Bowl level, and that's helped his teams get decent compensation for him in deals.
This offseason, the Miami Dolphins could send Ramsey to a new destination. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Ramsey and the Dolphins will "mutually explore trade options."
Teams interested in Ramsey would likely have to give up a middle-round pick for him after his solid 2024 campaign. He recorded 11 pass breakups and two interceptions while allowing an 83.2 passer rating in coverage.
Given Ramsey's age (30), potential suitors would likely balk at giving up an early-round pick. Spotrac's Michael Ginnitti noted that any team that acquires the veteran cornerback would pay $21.1 million this year with a more flexible contract structure after 2025.
"The acquiring team would essentially be taking on a 1 year, $21.1M contract, with the remaining three years [set up] as a pay-as-you-go structure," Ginnitti wrote.
With those parameters in mind, let's look at five trade packages that make the most sense for teams that may inquire about the three-time All-Pro cornerback.
Las Vegas Raiders
1 of 5
Las Vegas Raiders Get: CB Jalen Ramsey
Miami Dolphins Get: 2025 4th-round pick (No. 108 overall), WR Tre Tucker
The Las Vegas Raiders need to rebuild their defensive back room this offseason. They lost safeties Tre'von Moehrig and Marcus Epps and nickelback Nate Hobbs in free agency and cut cornerback Jack Jones.
New head coach Pete Carroll can remodel the secondary in his vision, working with play-caller Patrick Graham.
General manager John Spytek has shopped in the bargain-bin aisle of free agency thus far, but he may be willing to make an aggressive move for a high-level player who fills a significant need, especially if it doesn't cost him a premium draft pick.
Las Vegas doesn't have a proven starter at cornerback on the roster.
Third-year pro Jakorian Bennett is the team's best player at the position, and he missed seven games last season because of injury. Decamerion Richardson, a 2024 fourth-round pick, took meaningful snaps in the second half of his rookie campaign and showed some flashes, but he mostly struggled in a starting role.
In free agency, the Raiders took a flier on former Green Bay Packers cornerback Eric Stokes, a 2021 first-rounder who missed 22 games between 2022 and 2023.
Las Vegas must upgrade its cornerback room in a division with three playoff-caliber teams. On the back end, Ramsey could complement the Raiders' solid front line group in pass defense.
With the recent trade buzz around wide receiver Tyreek Hill, the Dolphins may be willing to acquire speedy wideout Tre Tucker and a fourth-round pick from the Raiders.
Los Angeles Chargers
2 of 5
Los Angeles Chargers Get: CB Jalen Ramsey
Miami Dolphins Get: 2025 3rd-round pick (No. 86 overall)
The Los Angeles Chargers are built to win now fresh off an 11-6 season, and they have the cap space ($29.8 million) to absorb Jalen Ramsey's contract.
The Chargers allowed Kristian Fulton to walk in free agency, and they haven't re-signed Asante Samuel Jr. They added Donte Jackson, and Tarheeb Still had an impressive rookie campaign, but they need another starter to round out the cornerback group.
Both Ramsey and Still can line up in the slot, allowing defensive coordinator Jesse Minter to give opposing quarterbacks different looks in coverage. The former can also play safety in a pinch alongside fellow All-Pro/Pro Bowl defensive back Derwin James Jr.
Ramsey would strengthen last year's No. 1 defensive scoring unit, giving the Chargers a better shot to take down the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC West.
Los Angeles Rams
3 of 5
Los Angeles Rams Get: CB Jalen Ramsey
Miami Dolphins Get: 2025 3rd-round pick (No. 101 overall)
Jalen Ramsey could return to the Los Angeles Rams, who need an upgrade at cornerback. The Rams could make a few cuts or restructure deals for cap-space flexibility.
Last year, the Rams brought back Darious Williams, who played with Ramsey between 2019 and 2022. However, he had a lackluster 2024 campaign, recording seven pass breakups and an interception while allowing a 101.7 passer rating.
The Rams signed Ahkello Witherspoon, who's more of a rotational depth defender than a full-time starter. He turned 30 in March and has only played a full season once in eight years because of injuries. A budding talent like Cobie Durant would benefit from having Ramsey around again.
In 2024, Los Angeles' young defense made strides as the season progressed, particularly in the defensive front. However, the unit finished 20th in passing yards allowed and gave up the seventh-most touchdowns through the air.
The Rams' Super Bowl window remains open, with Matthew Stafford locked into a new contract. Ramsey could be back in Los Angeles, helping the club make another successful title run.
Minnesota Vikings
4 of 5
Minnesota Vikings Get: CB Jalen Ramsey
Miami Dolphins Get: 2025 3rd-round pick (No. 97 overall)
Like the Los Angeles Rams, the Minnesota Vikings would have to restructure contracts to make room for Jalen Ramsey, but that's a minor inconvenience in an attempt to patch up their defense.
Minnesota re-signed Byron Murphy Jr., a versatile cornerback capable of lining up on the boundary and in the slot. Defensive coordinator Brian Flores can mix and match him with Ramsey while the team figures out who can fill in the gaps alongside them.
The Vikings haven't re-signed Stephon Gilmore, leaving a glaring need in the secondary. They signed a couple of placeholder veterans, Isaiah Rodgers and Jeff Okudah, to fill the void ahead of the draft. Last July, Mekhi Blackmon tore his ACL, and he only started in three games during his rookie campaign.
Minnesota can target a cornerback early in the draft, though in a win-now mode, Ramsey makes sense as a quick-fix option to help a pass defense that finished 28th in total yards last season.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
5 of 5
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Get: CB Jalen Ramsey
Miami Dolphins Get: 2025 4th-round pick (No. 121 overall), CB Jamel Dean
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers should be looking for an upgrade in the secondary.
At 28, cornerback Jamel Dean may have plateaued in a starting role. Since he signed an extension in 2023, he's registered 11 pass breakups and an interception, allowing passer ratings of 111 and 91.2 over the last two seasons. Perhaps he needs a change of scenery to re-energize his play.
Last season, in his first year as a full-time starter, Zyon McCollum had a decent showing. He recorded a team-leading 17 pass breakups and two interceptions while allowing an 86.9 passer rating.
Nonetheless, the Buccaneers fielded one of the worst pass defenses in 2024, giving up the fourth-most yards through the air and tying for the fourth-fewest interceptions (seven).
Even at this stage in Ramsey's career, he can force turnovers and plug holes on the back end of a leaky secondary. To stay atop the NFC South, the Bucs need to add a playmaker like Ramsey to the back end of their defense.
