76ers' Joel Embiid Underwent Knee Surgery, Will Be Re-Evaluated In 6 Weeks

Andrew PetersApr 11, 2025

The Philadelphia 76ers announced that center Joel Embiid has undergone arthroscopic surgery on his left knee and will be re-evaluated in six weeks.

Embiid played just 19 games during the 2024-25 season before being shut down in February because of his knee injury. On Feb. 28, the 76ers announced that he would miss the rest of the season due to “ongoing issues with his left knee.”

In the few games that he did play, Embiid was far from his typical self, putting up just 23.8 points and 8.2 rebounds per game.

Comparing those numbers to his MVP season just two years ago when he averaged 33.1 points and 10.2 rebounds per game, it's clear Embiid wasn't himself.

The knee injury has been burdening Embiid for well over a year now. Philadelphia announced in February 2024 that he had undergone surgery on his meniscus. He managed to return by the end of the regular season and playoffs before suiting up for Team USA at the Olympics in August.

By the time the 2024-25 season rolled around, the Sixers hoped the knee injury would be a thing of the past, but it wasn't. Embiid struggled to stay on the court consistently to start the year, missing most of January and playing six games in February before ending his season prematurely.

Now Embiid has undergone arthroscopic surgery on his left knee. ESPN's Shams Charania previously reported that he was "expected to make a full recovery." It was the second surgery Embiid had on his knee in the span of 14 months.

At his best, Embiid is a dominant big man and one of the best scorers in the NBA, but it's been a while since fans have seen that version of the former MVP. Embiid and the 76ers will look to finally move past Embiid's nagging knee injury this offseason and focus on winning games.
