Steven Adams, Rockets Reportedly Agree to $39M Contract Extension Ahead of Free Agency

Julia StumbaughJun 14, 2025

Center Steven Adams is returning for a second season with Alperen Şengün and the Houston Rockets.

Adams and the Rockets have agreed to terms on a three-year, $39 million contract extension in advance of free agency, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.

Adams was previously set to hit free agency after the expiration of the two-year, $25.2 million deal he originally signed with the Memphis Grizzlies.

Adams spent time on the frontcourt with Şengün last season as Rockets head coach Ime Udoka tested out a dual-big lineup for stretches of the 2024-25 campaign.

After moving in and out of the Rockets' lineup for the first two months of the 2024-25 season, Adams settled in and provided stability off the bench for an up-and-coming Houston team.

He ended the season having appeared in 58 regular-season games, averaging 3.9 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 13.7 minutes per night.

While on the court, he hauled in 18.1 percent of the Rockets' offensive rebounds, the highest rate in the league among players who appeared in at least 50 games, per NBA.com.

During the Rockets' seven-game postseason run, Adams averaged more than 22 minutes off the bench while putting up 5.7 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per playoff contest.

Adams, who will turn 32 in July, should continue to have a positive influence on a Rockets team that made major strides last season—especially now that he's another year removed from knee surgery.
