Spencer Dinwiddie, Hornets Reportedly Agree to Contract amid 2025 NBA Free Agency
Veteran point guard Spencer Dinwiddie's second stint with the Dallas Mavericks came to an end after just one year.
According to ESPN's Shams Charania, Dinwiddie signed a one-year contract with the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday. He had signed a one-year deal with the Mavs prior to last season, which marked his return to Dallas after he was sent to the franchise at the 2022 trade deadline.
Dinwiddie was a steady veteran presence amid a tumultuous 2024-25 campaign for the Mavs. He appeared in 79 games with 30 starts and averaged 11.0 points, 2.6 rebounds and 4.4 assists, and though his stats were modest, he was one of the most consistent players on the team.

Dallas traded away star point guard Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers as part of a deal that acquired star big man Anthony Davis. However, Davis was injured when he was acquired and missed more time after sustaining an injury in his team debut. Star point guard Kyrie Irving later suffered a season-ending torn ACL, and multiple other players missed significant time or were also ruled out for the year.
When it was all said and done, the Mavs finished with a 39-43 record and lost to the Memphis Grizzlies in the play-in tournament.
Dinwiddie is joining a Hornets squad that went 19-63 in 2024-25 and missed the playoffs for the ninth straight year. Signing the 32-year-old gives Charlotte a reliable veteran who can provide steady minutes behind star point guard LaMelo Ball as the team tries to improve next season.
