Giannis Trade Reportedly 'Has Been and Remains' Nets' 'Plan A' Amid NBA Rumors

Doric SamApr 1, 2025

There continues to be speculation that Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo could be a candidate to be traded this summer, and one team reportedly trying to position itself as his next landing spot.

According to Brian Lewis of the New York Post, Antetokounmpo "has been and remains Plan A" for the Brooklyn Nets, depending on his availability this offseason.

Antetokounmpo indicated that his loyalty lies with the Bucks, saying in February that he doesn't expect to request a trade and adding, "I am not this kind of guy, they would have to kick me out."

Lewis stated that if the Nets fail to land Antetokounmpo this offseason, they likely will be looking at another rebuilding year.

"If Antetokounmpo gets traded elsewhere this summer, that may make GM Sean Marks’ path simple, tanking for another year and building through the lottery," Lewis wrote.

At 25-51, the Nets rank 12th in the Eastern Conference and have already been eliminated from playoff contention. Brooklyn lacks star power and top-end talent, so it makes sense that the team would pursue Antetokounmpo. However, it would take a massive offer to convince Milwaukee to let the two-time NBA MVP go.

The Bucks are sixth in the East with a 40-34 record and don't appear to be one of the top contenders to represent the conference in the NBA Finals. However, Antetokounmpo and star point guard Damian Lillard are known for being able to take over in the playoffs, so a deep run could be enough for Milwaukee to keep its core intact this summer and beyond.
