Houston Beats Tennessee as CBB Fans Hype Matchup vs. Cooper Flagg, Duke in Final Four

Andrew PetersMar 30, 2025

Houston is moving on to the Final Four for the seventh time in program history after a dominant win against Tennessee on Sunday.

The No. 1 Cougars downed the No. 2 Vols 69-50.

Houston's stifling defense crushed Tennessee in the first half, holding the Vols to just 15 points through the first 20 minutes. Those 15 points were the fewest ever by a top-two seed in the NCAA Tournament.

After trailing 34-15 to start the half, Tennessee managed to crawl back and make it a 10-point game, but Houston didn't allow the Vols to get much closer and ran away in the final few minutes.

Veteran guard L.J. Cryer led the way for the Cougars with 17 points while Emanuel Sharp posted 16.

Houston will now get a matchup against No. 1 Duke in the Final Four, and fans are looking forward to that high-stakes contest.

Duke dominated No. 2 Alabama in the Elite Eight on Saturday and looks ready to get back to the title game, but Houston isn't going to make it easy. While the Blue Devils have arguably the best offense in the country, the Cougars have the best defense and will do their best to shut down Cooper Flagg and Co.

The battle between the two teams should be one for the ages.
