No. 1 Houston Clinches Elite 8 Berth as CBB Fans Praise Game-Winning Shot vs. Purdue

Houston clinched a spot in the Elite Eight with a thrilling last-second win over Purdue in the 2025 NCAA Tournament.

Junior guard Milos Uzan converted a game-winning layup with roughly one second remaining in the second half, giving the No. 1 seed Cougars a 62-60 victory over the No. 4 Boilermakers.

Uzan initially inbounded the ball to Joseph Tugler, who passed the ball right back to his open teammate under the basket.

Houston led by 10 points with just under seven minutes remaining in regulation, but Purdue stormed back to tie the game with a three-pointer from sophomore forward Camden Heide.

Houston initially missed multiple attempts to go ahead on the ensuing possession, but a deflection from Purdue sailed out of bounds and gave head coach Kelvin Sampson's team one more opportunity.

Uzan made the most of it.

Fans and pundits were amazed by the final play from Sampson.

Uzan finished with a game-high 22 points on 8-of-17 shooting, adding six assists and three rebounds.

Emanuel Sharp also chipped in with 17 points and two rebounds.

The Cougars were buoyed by their defense and three-point shooting throughout the contest, connecting on 39.1 percent of their triples as a team despite shooting just 37.7 percent from the field.

Houston will now face Tennessee with a spot in the Final Four on the line.
