Dennis Schroder, Kings Reportedly Agree to $45M Contract amid Russell Westbrook Rumors
Veteran guard Dennis Schröder has reportedly agreed to a contract with the Sacramento Kings, according to Fred Katz of The Athletic.
Shams Charania of ESPN reported the contract is for three years and is worth $45 million.
The news comes after NBA insider Chris Haynes reported the Kings were discussing possible deals for Schröder and veteran Russell Westbrook.
The 6'1" Schröder, who is 31 years old, has played 12 NBA seasons. The Atlanta Hawks selected the German guard with the 17th overall pick in the 2013 NBA draft.
He's been productive wherever he's landed in the Association. Schröder is a well-traveled guard who has played for the Atlanta Hawks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Los Angeles Lakers (twice), Boston Celtics, Houston Rockets, Toronto Raptors, Brooklyn Nets, Golden State Warriors and Pistons.
For his career, Schröder has averaged 13.1 points on 40.6 percent shooting (34.2 percent from three), 5.4 assists and 2.6 rebounds.
Last season, Schröder began the year with the Nets before they traded him to the Warriors for Reece Beekman, De'Anthony Melton and three second-round picks on Dec. 15.
His stay in San Francisco didn't even last two months, as the Warriors dealt him in a five-team deal to the Detroit Pistons. That trade most notably saw the Miami Heat move Jimmy Butler to the Warriors.
Now Schröder is heading out of town once again as he looks to contribute his scoring, ball-handling and distribution skills to a new team.
NBA insiders Marc Stein and Jake Fischer first connected Schröder and the Kings in a June 25 report.
The Kings' starting backcourt is set right now with Malik Monk running the point and Zach LaVine at the 2, but they could use a veteran off the bench who could handle both positions. Sacramento does have guard Keon Ellis, who has fared well when needed for more minutes, and the Kings also still have 2024 lottery pick Devin Carter. But Schröder gives the Kings more depth and upgrades the backcourt reserve group immediately as Sacramento looks to break through to the postseason after two campaigns that ended in the play-in tournament.
