Florida Hyped by CBB Fans as Title Threat After Dominant Sweet 16 Win vs. Maryland

Florida is heading to its first Elite Eight since 2017 after a dominant win over Maryland in the Sweet 16 on Thursday.

The No. 1 seed Gators advanced past the No. 4 Terrapins with an 87-71 victory.

It was a tight game heading into the second half with Florida holding just a two-point lead, but the Gators' high-powered offense outscored Maryland 47-33 in the second half to run away with the win.

Florida had six players in double figures in the win, Will Richard leading the way with 15 points.

Arguably the most impressive feat for the Gators is that they managed to run away with the win despite mediocre games from stars Walter Clayton Jr. and Alex Condon. Clayton finished with 13 and Condon had just six, missing some time after tweaking his ankle.

If Florida can play that well without its stars performing at their best, the ceiling for the Gators is a championship. Fans on social media declared Florida a championship-caliber team after the win.

Florida downed No. 16 Norfolk State in the first round before beating reigning champion No. 8 UConn in the Round of 32. Now the Gators have their most impressive win of the tournament and have plenty of momentum.

Florida will meet the winner of No. 3 Texas Tech and No. 10 Arkansas in the Elite Eight.
