Sweet 16 Bracket: Updated Schedule and Upset Picks for Men's NCAA Tournament

Zach BuckleyMar 24, 2025

Fewer than 25 percent of the 68 teams who entered the 2025 NCAA Tournament are still standing after the first weekend.

This March has been a bit lighter than some years in the Madness department, but it's not like we've seen an upset-free tournament. One No. 2 seed (St. John's) and a couple of No. 3s (Iowa State and Wisconsin) have already been sent packing. One double-digit seed (10th-seeded Arkansas), meanwhile, remains in the mix, too.

Remember, anything can (and often does) happen in this single-elimination format, so perhaps the true chaos of this championship chase lies just around the corner. After laying out the remaining schedule, we'll spotlight two potential upsets for the Sweet 16.

No. 6 BYU over No. 2 Alabama (East)

2 of 3
BYU v VCU

The second-seeded Crimson Tide are built to overwhelm their opponents with offense.

The sixth-seeded Cougars, however, are more than comfortable in a track meet. In fact, they've buried 11 of their last 12 opponents beneath a barrage of buckets.

Alabama has the fourth-most efficient offense in the country, per KenPom. BYU sits just five spots back in the category. If the Crimson Tide had trouble containing Robert Morris' 157th-ranked attack in the opening round, how one earth can it handle Richie Saunders, Egor Demin and all the other weapons in coach Kevin Young's pace-and-space offense?

This will be a shootout, and BYU has more than enough firepower to survive and advance.

No. 10 Arkansas Over No. 3 Texas Tech

3 of 3
Missouri v Arkansas

The Red Raiders squeeze everything they can out of 6'9" do-it-all swingman JT Toppin and his 6'6" counterpart Darrion Williams, and then they hope their shooters can do the rest. Toppin has been all-caps AWESOME in this tournament, Williams has had one quiet game and one amazing one, and this team is a collective 15-of-60 (25 percent) from the perimeter.

This isn't exactly a clicking-on-all-cylinders kind of groove, in other words. Arkansas and its chaos-creating defense can better exploit that then UNC Wilmington and Drake could.

Coach John Calipari's team has plenty of size, tons of high-ceiling recruits and transfers and about as much talent as you'll ever find in a No. 10 seed. Consistency has been a challenge, but so has availability, and it looks like the latter could be nearing a resolution. Nothing is certain yet, but the Razorbacks are hoping to have leading scorer and rebounder Adou Thiero back from a hyperextended knee for this matchup.

It's been an up and down season for Arkansas, but this team is coming in hot. The Razorbacks have won five of their last six games, and their only slipup was a three-point loss to an Ole Miss team that secured its own Sweet 16 spot.
