Buyer of Michael Jordan’s $9.5M Mansion Cuts Asking Price of Monthly Timeshare
The businessman who purchased Michael Jordan's $9.5 million mansion is reportedly cutting the rental price for the nine-bedroom, 19-bathroom property in Highland Park, Illinois.
Per Realtor.com's Charlie Lankston, Nebraska native John Cooper originally planned to let visitors stay in the mansion for a lofty $230,000 per month but has since slashed that price to $150,000 per month.
According to Lankston, the reduction came after Cooper failed to find a tenant willing to pay the original asking price to stay in Jordan's former dwelling.
Cooper purchased Jordan's mansion in December for $9.5 million, significantly less than the $14.89 million asking price. The mansion had previously been for sale for 13 years and was initially put on the market in 2012 for a whopping $29 million.
According to Lankston, Cooper said he wanted to protect the historic Chicago-area mansion but had "exciting plans" in store. Since the purchase, he announced he planned to auction off pieces from around the house and renamed the property "Champions Point."
He's since made some major changes to Jordan's former home, one of which included removing Jordan's logo from the center of the indoor basketball court. The rental listing also doesn't mention Jordan by name, Lankston noted.
"Champions Point is a sports lover's sanctuary, featuring a regulation-sized basketball court, championship-level putting green, tennis court, fitness center, and gaming areas," the listing said. "The ultimate retreat—elevate your game-day experience like never before. Watch every buzzer-beater, Cinderella story, and championship moment unfold in your private sports haven."
Even with the significant discount, $150,000 is a steep price for a month of living like the Bulls legend. Still, there will likely be a handful of diehard Jordan fans willing to splurge for such a unique experience.
