Mark Cuban Reveals Text from Nico Harrison Before Luka Doncic Trade with Lakers
Mark Cuban has been a big part of the Dallas Mavericks organization for over two decades, but he no longer weighs in on personnel decisions after selling his majority share of the team in 2023.
That means Cuban was not a part of the decision to trade the face of the franchise, Luka Dončić, to the Los Angeles Lakers. On the Your Mom's House podcast (contains NSFW language), Cuban broke down the text exchange between him and general manager Nico Harrison the night Dončić was sent to Los Angeles.
"I thought he was asking me what I thought, and I realized very quickly he was telling me what happened," Cuban said (56:50 mark). "And I told him I didn't agree with it... But it wasn't my decision to make."
Cuban also said he's had to deal with the aftermath of the blockbuster trade. He said his daughter had to hide while at a party following the trade and he still hears fans suggesting he fire Harrison, though that's not his call to make.
"I was here at South by Southwest... And somebody started yelling 'Fire Nico,'" Cuban said.
If Cuban had it his way, Dončić would still be in a Mavericks uniform, but that's not the case, and Dallas can only hope the trade pays off.
So far, things haven't gone well after a plethora of injuries. Anthony Davis suffered an adductor injury in his debut and has not yet returned while Kyrie Irving is out for the rest of the year with a torn ACL. The Mavs are currently in 11th place in the West at 33-37 while Dončić's Lakers are in fourth at 43-26.
