Michigan, UNC Among Most Bet Long Shots to Win 2025 NCAA March Madness Bracket

Andrew PetersMar 18, 2025

There's no such thing as a safe bet in March Madness with all the upsets that occur throughout the 64-team tournament, but there are bets that are a little riskier than others.

A handful of teams are long shots to win the tournament but are still getting some action in the betting world. Per DraftKings Sportsbook, Michigan is the long shot that has received the most bets, followed by North Carolina, UConn, Gonzaga and Kentucky.

All of the long-shot teams will have a nearly impossible road to the title game, and some of those squads might not even make it out of the first round.

Michigan, the No. 5 seed in the South Region, will go up against one of the toughest No. 12 seeds, UC San Diego, in the first round. The Tritons finished the season 30-4 and are No. 36 in KenPom's net ratings, which is just one spot below defending champion UConn.

North Carolina, typically at least a top-five seed in the tournament, finds itself still fighting for a spot in the big dance. The Tar Heels face San Diego State in a First Four matchup on Tuesday. If they can win that game, they'll have a tough first-round matchup against No. 6 Ole Miss.

UConn has been far from the version of itself that won back-to-back championships, but, understandably, the Huskies have drawn some betting interest based on their past success. Still, a three-peat for UConn would require a miracle.

Gonzaga, the No. 8 seed in the Midwest Region, has a matchup against Georgia and would get No. 1 Houston in the second round with a win, assuming the Cougars advance.

Kentucky's road to the title game is a bit easier than the other teams since it is a No. 3 seed, but the Wildcats could have to face rival Tennessee just to get to the Elite Eight.
