The various brackets point to how there isn't a clear-cut favorite in this year's tournament field. Alabama, Auburn, Duke and Houston all got some love as championship picks, while former Gonzaga star Drew Timme understandably selected his alma mater.
In the case of the Blue Devils, star player Cooper Flagg is battling an ankle sprain. Alabama was blown out by 22 points by Florida in the SEC tournament, and Auburn exited in the semifinals at the hands of Tennessee. All three look vulnerable.
None of the athletes even included Florida, the No. 1 seed in the West, going all the way.
Crosby and Boston Red Sox infielder Alex Bregman perhaps went out on the biggest limbs.
They both had Auburn as the last team standing, which is the path of least resistance because the Tigers are the No. 1 overall seed. But Crosby included 12th-seeded McNeese State in the Sweet 16 and had Alabama falling to No. 7 Saint Mary's in the second round. For Bregman, No. 10 New Mexico advanced to the Elite Eight and No. 7 UCLA was a Final Four team.
Projecting how the NCAA tournament will unfold is always an inexact science, and this year feels like more of a crap shoot than usual.
