NBA Playoff Picture 2025: Updated Bracket, Standings After Thunder Clinch No. 1 Seed
For a second consecutive season, the Oklahoma City Thunder are the top seed in the Western Conference.
Oklahoma City clinched the No. 1 seed with the Los Angeles Lakers' 118-89 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday night.
The Thunder, led by MVP frontrunner Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and a tremendous supporting cast, have been the best team in the West all year and arguably one of the best teams in the NBA this season, so it's no surprise to see them clinch the top seed once again.

It seems like just about everything is going right for the Thunder this season. Gilgeous-Alexander is having the best season of his career, putting up 33.0 points, 6.2 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game, which could be enough for him to take home his first MVP trophy after missing out on the award last year.
With Gilgeous-Alexander leading the way, OKC's young core has also improved tremendously this year. Jalen Williams is averaging 21.3 points, 5.3 assists and 5.5 rebounds this season, earning his first All-Star nod back in February. Chet Holmgren is posting 15.2 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per contest.
The addition of Isaiah Hartenstein this offseason has also proved to be a great move as he's collecting 11.4 points and 11.1 rebounds per game.
While it's been a fantastic year for the Thunder, they've faced their fair share of setbacks. Holmgren missed 39 games due to a hip fracture while Hartenstein missed significant time at the beginning of the year because of a left hand fracture.
Even with their starting big men each missing time this year, the Thunder have managed to put together the best defense in the NBA. Per NBA.com, Oklahoma City leads the league with a defensive rating of 106.1. No other team has a rating under 109.0.
Defense wins championships, but the Thunder have been outstanding on offense as well, posting the fourth-best offensive rating in the NBA this year (118.7).
Combine efficient offense and suffocating defense with an MVP candidate and a deep roster and you'll get all the makings of a championship contender, and that's exactly what the Thunder are this year.
