WVU AD: I Can't Comprehend March Madness Snub; Resume Was Better Than 'Several Teams'
West Virginia athletic director Wren Baker expressed his disappointment with the Mountaineers being left out of the 2025 NCAA Tournament picture on Sunday.
"I can’t comprehend this team being left out," Baker wrote in a social media post. "Our resume was better than several teams in the field and it’s a terrible travesty that we weren’t included."

Head coach Darian DeVries said in a statement that he was "extremely shocked" to not be included in the field:
West Virginia finished the regular season with a 19-13 overall record, losing to Colorado in the second round of the Big 12 tournament.
Selection Committee Chair Bubba Cunningham revealed that the Mountaineers were the first team out.
"The last four teams that were out, it was a tough call," Cunningham said, via SI.com's Schuyler Callihan. "The first team out was West Virginia. They had an outstanding year and unfortunately, knowing Tucker DeVries was hurt...player availability is something that we talk about quite a bit."
Tucker DeVries appeared in just eight games this season due to an upper body injury, although it's interesting that his health issues were a reason for West Virginia's absence in the March Madness field considering his last appearance occurred on Dec. 6.
The Drake transfer also didn't suit up in a single Big 12 contest for the Mountaineers (h/t CBS Sports' Chris Hassel).
Despite an early exit in the conference tournament, West Virginia remained successful without DeVries and maintained one of the nation's most imposing defenses. The Mountaineers allowed just 64.8 points per game throughout their 2024-25 campaign, the No. 2 mark in the Big 12.
West Virginia also finished with a 6-10 record against Quad 1 opponents, while North Carolina received a spot in the NCAA Tournament despite owning a 1-12 Quad 1 record.
Even though the Mountaineers could have put themselves in a better position to secure a March Madness berth by advancing further in the Big 12 tournament, Baker was still shocked that they were left out.
