Video: 7'9" Florida Center Olivier Rioux Cuts Net Without Ladder at SEC Tournament

Most college basketball players require a ladder to cut down the net after winning a championship, but that wasn't the case for Olivier Rioux on Sunday.

The 7'9" Florida freshman center managed to bypass the ladder and grab his souvenir from the SEC championship flat-footed.

Rioux is the tallest college basketball player in Division I history, besting UNC Asheville's Kenny George, who played from 2006 to 2008, and UCLA's Mike Lanier, who played from 1988 to 1993. Both George and Lanier stood at 7'7".

Rioux is the Guinness World Record holder for the tallest teenager. According to Florida's website, he stood at 6'1" at eight years old, 6'11" in sixth grade and reached the 7' mark by the time he was in seventh grade.

Rioux, who is from Canada but played at IMG Academy in Florida, was considered to be a 3-star prospect by 247Sports Composite.

Unfortunately, fans didn't get to see what Rioux is capable of this year as he opted to redshirt his freshman year, but he'll now have four years of eligibility ahead of him.

The Gators are holding up just fine without their 7'9" freshman this season. Florida is 30-4 on the year and won its first SEC tournament championship since 2014 on Sunday, beating Tennessee 86-77.

The Gators were likely already locked into a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament, but the win over the Vols bolstered their resume further. Now Florida will look to make a deep run in the tournament before getting Rioux on the court next season.
