For the first time in Houston history, the Cougars are Big 12 regular-season and tournament champions.

Some men's college basketball fans now believe a national title run is next.

The Cougars will head into March Madness as a potential top seed after defeating Arizona 72-64 in Saturday night's Big 12 Championship game.

Saturday night's tightly-contested title game came down to the final five minutes, after Tobe Awaka put the Wildcats ahead 62-61 with just 5:32 remaining on the clock.

Houston took a timeout, then responded by going on an 11-2 run while keeping Arizona from scoring a single field goal for the remainder of the game.

Ja'Vier Francis put away the Wildcats' Big 12 title hopes with a dunk in the final 45 seconds:

The Cougars were led in the victory by Milos Uzan and his season-high 25 points.

Uzan went 4-for-6 from behind the arc while contributing four assists, committing no turnovers and powering Houston's second-half comeback.

Some fans now believe Uzan, who is a potential candidate for the 2025 NBA draft, will also be key to the Cougars' national title hopes.

Starting forward J'Wan Roberts, who was sidelined with an ankle injury for the Big 12 title game, is expected to return for the NCAA Tournament. Getting him back would make the Cougars an even more formidable opponent this March.

Arizona will meanwhile hope their competitive showing against Houston was enough to improve their own NCAA Tournament seeding. Both teams will now wait for Selection Sunday coverage to begin on CBS Sunday night at 6 p.m. ET.
