Kendrick Lamar Raps About Lakers' Luka Doncic Weight Rumors on New Playboi Carti Song

Mike ChiariMar 14, 2025

Kendrick Lamar name-dropped Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Dončić as part of a feature on the Playboi Carti song "Good Credit" from his new album I Am Music.

According to TMZ Sports, one of Lamar's lines in the song featured him saying, "The numbers is nothing, the money is nothing, I've really been him I promise, see Kenny been heavy out west and I carry the weight, I'm Luka Dončić."

This is far from the first time that Lamar has made mention of an NBA player, as his supremely popular Drake diss track entitled "Not Like Us" brought up Utah Jazz legend and Basketball Hall of Famer John Stockton.

It seems likely that the line, "I carry the weight, I'm Luka Dončić," is in reference to rumors regarding why the Dallas Mavericks shockingly decided to trade Dončić to the Lakers last month.

Sam Amick of The Athletic reported that Dončić's conditioning and habits were a point of "frequent frustration" for the Mavs. Some in the organization reportedly felt he was "lazy," and had issues with his penchant for drinking beer and smoking hookah.

Some Mavericks sources expressed their belief that Dončić's habits would "likely lead to catastrophe in the next five years or so."

The Lakers apparently had no concerns with Dončić's weight, physical condition or off-court routines, as they decided to send Anthony Davis, Max Christie and a 2029 first-round pick to Dallas in exchange for the 26-year-old star, plus Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris.

L.A. is 8-5 in the 13 games Dončić has played since the trade, and he is averaging 26.1 points, 8.6 rebounds, 7.6 assists, 3.4 three-pointers made and 1.8 blocks per contest.

Also, at 40-24, the Lakers are fourth in the Western Conference, and they are trending toward their best record since 2019-20 when they won a championship.

Dončić hasn't been in Los Angeles long, but he is already on the radar of one of the biggest stars in music, which speaks to the instant impact he has made.
